Personal Development and Pupil Leadership
The STM Way

We aim to captivate, motivate and challenge children across all areas of learning and enrich their learning journey through a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
Together with our core curriculum, the STM Way reflects our ambition to develop the whole child, nurturing their knowledge, skills, character and experiences so they are well prepared to reach their potential and live happy, fulfilled and successful lives.
Through the STM Way, pupils benefit from carefully planned and meaningful opportunities throughout their primary school journey to experience learning beyond the classroom, helping to prepare them confidently for life beyond Year 6.

Pupil Leadership
We have a range of Pupil Leadership roles throughout our school for our pupils which play a vital role in shaping our strong, caring and aspirational school community.
Pupil leadership at St Thomas More plays a vital role in shaping our strong, caring and aspirational school community. Our pupil leaders support the Headteacher, staff, parents and pupils by modelling The STM Way, contributing positively to school life and helping to improve the experiences within our school community. Through these roles, children develop confidence, responsibility, empathy and a strong sense of service to others.
Year 6 Prefects
Our Year 6 Prefects are trusted role models who hold designated responsibilities throughout the week to support teachers and pupils. They exemplify excellent behaviour, manners and attitudes to learning, consistently modelling the STM Way. Prefects introduce the weekly Year 6 Over and Above Assembly, nominate pupils for the STM Way Award and manage weekly house points, developing leadership, organisation and accountability. Through these responsibilities, prefects grow in confidence, reliability and pride in contributing to the life of the school.
Mini Vinnies
Our Mini Vinnies turn kindness into action. Guided by Catholic Social Teaching and values that align closely with British Values, they actively support those in need within our school and local community. This role nurtures compassion, social responsibility and a deep understanding of justice, service and empathy, helping pupils recognise their ability to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Sports Leaders
Sports Leaders represent St Thomas More with pride and enthusiasm. They support physical activity across the school, including caring for playtime equipment and encouraging positive, inclusive play. Through this role, pupils develop teamwork, leadership, resilience and a commitment to healthy lifestyles, while learning to take responsibility for shared resources.
Anti-Bullying Ambassadors
Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors promote a culture of respect, kindness and safety. They help raise awareness of bullying, support peers and reinforce our zero-tolerance approach to unkind behaviour. This role strengthens pupils’ communication skills, empathy and moral responsibility, empowering them to stand up for others and promote positive relationships.
Junior Chaplains
Junior Chaplains support prayer, liturgy and the spiritual life of the school. They help lead worship, reflect on the Gospel and support others in faith and prayer. This role develops spiritual leadership, reflection and a deeper understanding of faith, encouraging pupils to live out Christ’s values in their daily actions.
CAFOD Council
The CAFOD Council raises awareness of global justice and encourages pupils to respond to the needs of others around the world. Through fundraising, campaigning and learning about global inequality, pupils develop a strong sense of global citizenship, responsibility and solidarity with others.
Leadership Selection and Responsibility
Pupil leadership roles are positions of responsibility and trust. Pupils who wish to take on a leadership role complete an application outlining how they demonstrate the qualities required. All pupil leaders are expected to act as positive role models, attend meetings regularly and punctually, and recognise the influence they have on others.
Through these leadership opportunities, pupils at St Thomas More develop the skills, values and confidence needed to thrive as responsible, compassionate and active members of both the school community and wider society.
